Compassion means we care about others and treat them with kindness. Talking about what children care about and why they care assists in building understandings about compassion and motivate action in authentic caring ways. In this activity children will be prompted to think about the range of things that make them feel compassionate and caring towards.

When compassion leads to action, it is often called kindness. Letting others know that you ‘see’ them and care for them is an action that promotes connectedness and social and emotional development. In this activity children will be prompted to think about friendships and to share care cards with their friends and act on feelings of compassion.
The simple act of giving and receiving hugs is a demonstration of kindness, compassion and empathy. ‘Share a hug’ is an activity for young children to show care for others and acknowledge their feelings allowing them to wrap their arms around someone or something.
